In a conversation about mortality, a moment of connection that would resonate throughout the years, my grandpa said to me “Los Espíritus De Nosotros Son Eternos, Esta Piel Es Prestada”, translated to “Our spirits are eternal, this skin is borrowed.” In honor of my spiritual practice and the combination between learning and absorbing through oral history and storytelling, while also learning through my own studies on the history of Latin America. I have begun to form stories and images in my head, combining the magic and the realism, finding my realities within them, through ancestral wisdom that comes intuitively in its own time if you’re willing to listen and through seeking history that is recorded and archived if you’re willing to see the truth in between the lines of what was erased or altered. |

I delve into various mythologies, intertwining narratives that are inspired from different societies, yet converge in a harmonious exploration of our relationship with Earth, nature, and our borrowed skin. Inspired by the Ticuna people's quilt, I reference "Animals in the Milky Way," as a homage to cosmic interconnectedness, I imagined them creating this perspective of the sky by laying on the floor and gazing upward at the stars, painting the mountains as the seasons change and the animals who were living amongst them. |

The figure cradling a wounded jaguar inspired by the tale of Saturn's son—a story on prophecies, patricide, and environmental repercussions. This story reflects my love for astrology, and references my own Saturn-ruled natal chart. This mixture of personal astrological elements with universal myths becomes a bridge between the individual and the collective unconscious, adding layers of depth to the exploration of parent and child dynamics and the consequences of ego-driven actions. The merging of worlds continues with the inclusion of the myth of El Dorado—a golden man, not a place. This myth serves as a commentary on colonization, where the Spanish sought wealth, mistaking the offerings to the moon and the sun of the Muisca people for a source of material riches. Gold, traditionally seen as a spiritual offering, finds its place in my work as a recurring symbol, representing the craftsmanship of Colombia's indigenous people and the complex motivations behind colonization, echoed by elements like coffee and bananas in my previous pieces. |

This painting serves as a commentary on the repercussions of colonization, portraying the modern-day seasons of flood and drought, global warming, and climate change—a consequence of greed displacing indigenous communities who know the land. By weaving these narratives together, I aim not only to share untold stories and keep history alive but also to shed light on the stark contrast between societies and the contemporary consequences of our actions. Through my art, I strive to learn and share the stories of those who came before us, fostering an understanding of our borrowed land and bodies, and the imperative to nurture and protect them. Our spirits, intricately connected to all living things, are watching as we navigate the delicate balance between allowing our world to burn and flood or preserving it for generations to come. |

I am, in my own way, taking you through my personal underworld with these motifs. Revisiting childhood memories, songs that bring nostalgia, ancestors that are guiding me, referencing stories that have been shared with me, moments in history that stood out to me and the monsters and spirits that used to visit me in my sleep. |

I hope that you get lost in the details with me, and ask questions and wonder, and search for your favorite motif, because like family secrets or history that is never shared, they are all hiding in the back ground waiting for you to seek them. |
